64 bit Linux / FreeBSD Flash Player exists

I just watched Tinic from the Flash Player team demo two 64bit versions of Flash Player 10 here at FlashForward. One on Unbunu Linux and the other running on FreeBSD. Tinic also showed a 32bit version of the FreeBSD player. At this point however, there if no solid plan for release.

Customary “Yes, I will be at FlashForward” Post

It’s a real shame that both FlashForward and MAX are in San Francisco this year. No fancy hotel to stay in, no bunking off for a day to take in the sights of a different city and no lost baggage. Ah well … c’est la vie!

p.s. Don’t miss the San Flashcisco welcomes FlashForward event link.

Crazy AS3 Runtime Error

In all the months I’ve been authoring ActionScript 3, I’ve never seen a runtime error as cool as this:http://thebackbutton.com/misc/best_stack_dump_ever.txt(note: some package/class names have been masked)I managed to get this error when I called a temperately disabled function, renderPlotsHandler(e:Event):void. And when I say disabled, I simply mean that I added a ‘return;’ to the first line of the function. So, I have no idea how I managed to get this error if the function did nothing?!Crazy :)

Briefly: OS X Update Claims to Fix FileReference.upload Issue

Apple has just publicly released an OS X update (10.5.1) that claims to fix a number of issues. One being:

Improves compatibility with Adobe Flash-based uploaders used by .Mac Web Gallery and certain other websites and applications.

New AIR Logo: The Adobe Hole?

As I’m sure you’ve already seen and read many blogs now (link, link, etc), Adobe AIR has a new logo!

One small thing I wanted to bring up about this new logo is it’s hole.  To me, it seems to coincidentally mirror the hole found in the new Photoshop logo.  And what’s even more interesting is that they look kinda cool linked together as I’ve mocked up on the picture below.

Is this a sign on things to come for Adobe branding or just an random coincidence?

Briefly: San Francisco Flash Platform User Group won’t be an Anagram!

SanFlashcisco.com .. coming soon .. first meet-up, soon after … watch this space :).

Briefly: RIA Camp at Adobe SF

I’m planning on attending RIA Camp next week at Adobe. So, if anyone wants to talk San Francisco Flash Platform User Group with me, then you should come on down. These small camps are always fun :)

Briefly: Leopard .. just OK.

So “OS X 10.5 Leopard” is out tomorrow and yes, I shall likely be stopping by the SF Apple store on the way home to pick it up. Between my wife and I, we have around 5 Mac’s in our day to day life. Myself, I usually use my laptop at home and at work I’m using a 24″ iMac running Tiger.

But here’s the thing, I’ve been running the WWDC version of Leopard on my MacBook laptop for the past few months now. And you know what, most of the time I don’t even notice I’m switching between it and Tiger.

I think that right now, the only thing Leopard has over Tiger is it’s polished look. Leopard has had a lot of upgrades backstage, so they are not so apparent in everyday use. But, I guess that once applications start taking advantage of these new features, then maybe the worth of Leopard shall start to shine through. Hmm.

But like I said, I am still going out tomorrow to buy it so I must be a sucker for QuickView and the super fast spotlight. :)

Brief: You say RIA, I Say RIA, Let’s call the Whole Thing Off…

…. and call it “RIIA” (Rich Interactive Internet Application )

The whole RIA argument is just plain stupid!
