You need to use it to make sure it doesn't break your existing content! Updates to the Flash Player don't just tack on new features like gum on the bottom of your desk. Core components of the player are constantly being modified and updated and there's a large risk of breakage that includes screwing up something that may have worked perfectly fine in previous versions.
